For today’s Travel Tuesday, I’d like to share with you some of my favorite songs from the late 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.
I should actually call it throwback Tuesday 😉
Not only music soothes the soul and gives you an instant energy boost, it also allows you to travel around the world!
Here are some classic songs but some new sounds (in foreign languages).
Let’s go back in time & enjoy!
U2 (Ireland) – One
What an amazing song from the greatest Irish band in history. It has a powerful message and so great to listen to!
Duran Duran (UK) – Come undone
This song just made me fall more in love with Simon Lebon 😉
Inxs (Australia) – New sensation
Inxs was like a breath of fresh air into the music world scene back in the days!
Johnny Clegg (South Africa) – I call your name
This is one of the first songs I ever heard from South Africa and it is so joyful 😉
Bob Marley (Jamaica) – Could you be loved
Ya man, who doesn’t love this song? It is beautiful. Long live Bob Marley!
Indochine (France) – Les Tzars
Indochine was an awesome French rock band. I spent my teenage years listening to this 😉
Ofra Haza (Israel) – Im nin alu
Ofra has one of the most beautiful voices I’ve ever heard!
Sergio Mendes (Brazil) – Madgalehna
One of my favorite Brazilian songs, so cheerful & makes you want to dance samba as soon as the first note is played.
Celia Cruz (Cuba) & Fania All-Stars – Quimbara
The queen, la reina, Azuuuuuuuuuuuuucar! She simply rules. Her joy, enthusiasm and rhythm are so contagious!
Maná (Mexico) – Eres mi religión
This is my favorite song in Spanish & I love to sing it during Karaoke challenges (ok secret’s out 😉
Bonus songs:
The Tea Party (Canada) – Heaven coming down
I couldn’t forget a great band from my own country EH?
Simple Minds (Scotland) – Don’t you forget about me
A classic from the 1980’s!
What are your favorite world songs?
Which song(s) did I miss or I should add? 😉
Well that was so fun…lots of memories! 🙂
Im glad you had fun! It sure brought back great memories.
Which one did you like best?
The INXS one! Danced all over my house to that one growing up. 😉
Me too 😉 Ah the good old days!
OMG, so true! I totally forgot about that one. ♥ it too.
Will look for it on Youtube and add it!
Gracias 😉
Wow – great idea, fantastic list and awesome tunes! It’s great to see Johnny Clegg, Ofra Haza and Sergio Mendes in there – some of my favorites that don’t get a lot of attention in “the states.” And I absolutely love Simple Minds, so good addition there! I’d toss a little Caribbean vibe in there: Eddy Grant (“Electric Avenue”) from Guyana, and Billy Ocean (“Caribbean Queen”) from Trinidad. And, it’s a stretch, but the Bee Gees are from Isle of Man, and everybody needs a little “Jive Talking” now and then, right? 😉
Many thanks!
Oh yeah, Electric Avenue was quite a hit back in the days was it. Well I was quite young but I remember it.
Billy Ocean! Oh my, I sure did forget him didn’t it? I think “Get out of your dreams” first comes to mind ha ha
The Bee Gees YES! My parents listened to their music all the time 😉
I will look for one of their videos and add it to the list!
I appreciate your input & visit 🙂
