Motion pictures have the amazing power of taking us on a visual adventure to some of the most beautiful corners of our planet. They make us daydream and escape reality even if it’s for a very short period of time. It feeds our mind, body, soul and for us travelers at heart, it helps feed our wanderlust even more!
Here are some movies that are worth watching (and shot in some amazing locations!)
The Bucket List
A billionaire, played by Jack Nicholson, who runs hospitals ironically finds himself in one! His diagnosis is not very encouraging. His roommate, played by the awesome Morgan Freeman, is a humble mechanic who is also waiting for his final days.
One night they write a list of all the things they want to do and places they want to visit before both they kick the bucket. The wealthier of the two will finance these adventures around the globe!
What I love about this movie is that it encourages and motivates you to go and do all the things you’ve always wanted. Life is only a one time show and we must leave full of great memories and not with truckloads of material things. Go and find joy in your life 🙂
Midnight in Paris
Written and directed by the one & only Woody Allen, it stars Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams and a star-studded cast. The story takes place in the city of lights and it sure provides an incredible background!
I really love how Owen’s character is adventurous enough to go out and discover different parts of the city and learns some valuable lessons thanks to the locals he encounters.
If we could only travel back in time like he does! I would have loved living and witnessing the grandeur of that era.
My favorite part is when he gets to wander around Montmartre! I close my eyes and am there in a split second.
As Audrey Hepburn once said: “Paris is always a good idea!” 🙂
My life in ruins
Nia Vardalos plays the role of Georgia, a history teacher who returns to the land of her ancestors to understand more the culture and get her mojo, or Kafi, back! She finds employment as a tour guide and she will be responsible for taking a very colorful and hilarious group all over Greece and love will find her!
The locations of the movie are simply spectacular! From Athens to Delphi to the beaches on the Mediterranean, the movie shows many of the beauties Greece has to offer!
The cast includes funny man Richard Dreyfus and the oh so handsome Alexis Georgoulis who truly is eye candy!
It makes you want to fly to Greece, sing, dance and eat Greek food and say OPA!
The Fast and the Furious 5
This action-packed movie starring Vin Diesel and the late Paul Walker leaves you on the edge of your seat!
The opening scene, an aerial view of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is just sensational! It leaves anyone speechless, makes you want to get on the first plane and be right there 🙂
The group wants to get away with a hefty sum and they will go through hell & a carefully drawn master plan in order to achieve it.
If you like speed, thrills and remain in suspense, this is one you should watch!
House of flying daggers
I have always been fascinated with martial art films since as long as I can remember. There is also something about the rich history of China that makes me want to learn more about it: art, traditions, culture and breathtaking views of the countryside!
In the movie, lead actress Ziyi Zhang, plays the role of Mei, a blind dancer who is believed to be the daughter of the leader of House of Flying Daggers. Two police captains, played by Andy Lau and Takeshi Kaneshiro, follow her and along the way, they will fight ferociously to win her love.
The spectacular scenery, costumes, bright colors, everything is just an incredible combination and a real feast for the eyes.
If you like this type of film I highly recommend it!
Other films that deserve a mention:
Only you
This old-school, romantic comedy was filmed in different regions of Italy. From Venice to Siena to Rome to the ever stunning Amalfi Coast, it’s very hard not to fall in love!
Lara Croft, the Cradle of Life
As a viewer, you are captured right from the opening scene filmed in Santorini, then transported to the Great Wall of China, Hong Kong and end at the top of Mt Kilimanjaro, Tanzania. It is like a free trip around the world in a few hours!
I love movies and if they are about traveling to different parts of the world even better 🙂
Now it’s your turn.
Tell me,
What are your all-time favorite movies that inspired you to travel?
Which others would you recommend?
I can’t wait to hear from you!
Til next time
Kay 🙂
