Have I already told you that I am a certified book lover? Don’t believe me? Check out the books I’ve read so far in 2015 at the 50 Book Pledge 🙂

I am proud to announce that I just finished reading my 18th, yes you read that right, book! I am on a roll!

The title of the latest page turner is:

Nourished:

A search for health, happiness and full night’s sleep

Nourished, book, spirituality, women's issues, religion, Zondervan, review, book review, TS76

by a dynamic mother-daughter team of authors Becky Johnson and Rachel Randolph.

Let me be honest with you. Nothing, but absolutely NOTHING prepared me for this. As soon as I started reading the first page I was hooked and just could not stop! I read about a chapter a day and could not wait to find out what was coming up next.

Rachel is woman in her thirties and mom to a sweet, playful and smart toddler. She loves organization and has everything planned down to the last detail. Her mother Becky is the complete opposite. She likes things messy and she admits it!

Both have a very active life and help each other out. That’s what keeps their bond with their family very strong.

They both are gifted writers who share their hilarious real life stories as well as several trial-and-errors.

The main purpose of the book is to focus on some of life’s biggest stressors such as

  • Cluttered Surroundings
  • Exhaustion of parenting
  • Time-starved marriages
  • Feeling like a spiritual slacker
  • Crowded Schedules
  • Negative Body Image

Each chapter offers great tips backed by some interesting facts (they did some thorough research!) and invite us to being open to change what does not work and simply nourish ourselves like we never have before. After all, if we don’t change we can’t progress or be a better version to ourselves and those around us!

Again, allow me to be sincere with you. I truly wish I had read this book last year as I was going through one of the most difficult moments I’ve ever experienced. If I told you I’d make you choke or cry. Yes it was a battle I was fighting in silence and I did not exteriorize it or spoke about it. Only God knows what I went through. How I wish in those dark moments that I had someone like Becky or Rachel hold my hand or share with me great passages from the scriptures and telling me to stay calm, breathe, focus and know that I would see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Now there are several passages that struck me after reading them but the one in particular that really went straight to my heart was the following:

“The best lessons and triumphs and happily ever after endings most often come to us while we are making our way through crisis and arriving on the other side – however exhausted and bedraggled – as better, wiser and stronger women.”

Wow, just wow. Isn’t that amazing, enlightening or what?

I’ve certainly learned many lessons and greatly appreciate those difficulties as crazy as it may sound. I also made some spectacular mistakes that may affect me for a long time but you know what? I needed that to learn, change and grow. I came out of those tribulations bruised but still have that warrior spirit. They say fall seven times, stand up eight right? Well, in 2015 I am standing and pressing forward with a clearer vision and direction. Thank you God for that!

So if you do want to curl up with a great, funny, inspiring, challenging and educational book, one that will fill your heart, mind, body and soul, this is one that will become a favorite. Trust me on this one.

I will certainly follow their advice and start working on then, one at a time. I can’t wait to soar to new adventures!

  1. Hi Karla,
Thanks for the opportunity to win this book! It sounds fabulous. The last time I did something for myself was actually recently. At the beginning of the year I sought out to make healthier eating choices for 30 days in hopes that it would stick and become a lifestyle and not a diet. I’ve been doing great with it (on most days), I feel better, look better (I’ve lost some pounds), it’s been exciting!
