The great thing is that the island offers something for everyone, whether you’re a lazy Linda or an active Alex. So if you’re wondering where to go your on next vacation, here is why it should be a serious contender:
Rest and relaxation
There are two ways to restore yourself to an unstressed state: find the best of Bali’s luxury accommodation, and search for the most brilliant beaches. You won’t struggle with the first requirement as there are some beautiful five-star resorts on the island where you can sink into a sumptuous bed at the end of a long day. It’s even better when you find a hotel with a beachfront spa like The Legian Bali in Seminyak.

You could enjoy the private stretch of sand or see what other natural wonders are available nearby. Lots of guides recommend Balangan which has amazing sand for castle building, as well as being the perfect surfing destination. Travelers will be rewarded with the beaches they discover.

If you’re still not fully rested, book a Jari Menari massage. This type of treatment uses a mixture of techniques including Balinese, Swedish and deep tissue. It would be hard to be stressed after this little beauty.
Beautiful experiences
Speaking of the finer things, you can really get back to your sense of being when you partake in some of Bali’s experiences. Horse riding doesn’t get much better than on this island where you’ll find many options near to where you’re staying. Kuta P Stables are highly recommended by visitors; it’s located around 40 minutes from Kuta near Canggu.
If you’d prefer to see the sea, it might be the right time in your life to discover diving. When you’re with a highly trained and respected company, you can stop sweating about the small things and really enjoy the sights around you in the water. Bali Bubble Dive Centre comes well recommended for searching a shipwreck, but there are many other companies too.
Amazing attractions
Once you’ve had an adrenaline boost from your underwater adventure, you could get it going again by going even higher than sea level. Mount Agung is the island point on Bali and stands 3,142 meters tall. Most people recommend employing a guide (they can be found at the beginning of the trek) but it is possible to do either of the two routes to the top in less than four hours. Oh, and Mount Agung is actually a stratovolcano, but it hasn’t erupted since 1963.

If you want to pray for success on your volcanic hike, perhaps you should head to Tanah Lot first.
It is a Hindu temple that sits on a cliff over the ocean and is one of the best places to take photographs of the powerful sunsets.

When travelling with kids, it’s likely that they’ll be more interesting in simple thrills rather than holy places, so treat them to their idea of a day out by going to Waterbom Bali.

For a water park, it is relatively inexpensive and will keep your children amused all day long. It’s also a great opportunity for you to grab a sunbed and work on your tan!

Nice overview of Bali, one of my favourite places on earth. But you don’t have to stay in a pricey resort. When I was there (granted, it was many years ago) you could get a very comfortable guest house for only a few dollars, and the people were so friendly you felt like you were at home. I was lulled to sleep by the chirping of crickets and the frogs in the nearby rice fields. To me, the real heart of Bali is (or at least was) Ubud.

However, there are accomodations for every taste & every budget!

I can’t believe I lived in Jakarta for 2 years and never made it to Bali. The nightlife in JKT was just toooo good, every weekend was spent partying or hungover.
Indonesia (from what i saw) really is the most fertile place one earth and Bali looks no different!

Seeing as most of Bali’s forests are now gone (along with the now extinct Balinese tiger), and the dwindling water supply is grossly over-exploited due to the out-of-control, unsustainable growth in tourism, I don’t know if it’s right to say that “nature [is] celebrated.” The beaches aren’t even that great compared with nearby Lombok.
Far, far more interesting are the islands east of Bali, as well as Sumatra and Kalimantan. In those places, you can still get a taste of what authentic life and culture looks like in Indonesia far away from the tourist hordes. And all around are real, beautiful, untouched vistas and rainforest.
Don’t get me wrong, Bali is still great to relax in for a few days after a real adventure in those places, as it’s extremely comfortable and has everything to available to cater to the western tourist. But Indonesia is huge and diverse, and it’s about time travelers get off the well-trodden, beat down, over-hyped path that is Bali and actually explore a little.
I totally agree with you that there is more to see than just Bali. Indonesia is a great country that deserves to be explored beyond the over touristy places.
