As you saw in Part 1, Alte Kapelle is incredibly beautiful and breathtaking. Those are the three words I can find to simply describe it!
We walked around the building to take as many photos as possible, and from various angles and even the ceiling had to be captured. I don’t know if I mentioned this before but I do whatever it takes to capture the right image, even if it means to lie down on the floor (and who cares about the looks from the other visitors!). I did precisely that. Let me know what you think 🙂
Once I got up, I did feel a bit dizzy, thus I had to sit down and come back to my senses! I was also thirsty and a tad bit hungry, so I told Marian that I would wait for her outside because I needed some fresh air and boy did that feel good!
We walked around and stumbled upon this small yet inviting café called the Cupcakery! What a great fun name. Of course we couldn’t resist but I, a certified red velvet cupcake lover, was in sweet heaven.
What else can you call this but pure eye candy 🙂
Now the hardest part was actually selecting one from the 4 counter shelves:
- Triple chocolate
- Raspberry cream
- Oreo cookies
- Lemon cheesecake
- Fruit filling
- NY cheesecake
- Strawberry cheesecake
- Blueberry cheesecake

I sure have a sweet tooth and decided, well, let Karla have a cupcake (and help my blood sugar level come back to normal), so I opted for this
Raspberry cream and chocolate! Yum-O. It was rich, decadent, melt in your mouth! Alles Gute Ja (Marian and I joked and we turned the expression into Alex says it’s good yes 🙂
That was just the sugar fix I needed and it was great since we had the shop to ourselves. The décor is very unique and very cool. You would think you’re in a coffee shop or restaurant from the 50’s!
Now we could have stayed longer and drink bottomless cups of fresh brewed Kaffee but we had to get going and see as much of Regensburg as we possibly could before returning to the Long ship.
After looking at the map, we decided to simply walk around and go with the flow. The city is very compact, so there is no chance of getting lost, well, you could 🙂

Although we could have had another sugar fix, we only went in to tantalize our 5 senses but we were heading towards one of Regensburg oldest establishments for lunch…Adieu chocolat 😦
Located on Schwarze Bären Straße 6 (Black Bear Street No 6), Regensburger Weißbräuhaus is the city’s oldest wheat brewery which dates back to 1620.
The great thing is that they brew their top fermented, unfiltered wheat beers right on the premises in their own copper kettles that stand in the middle of the brewery. Two varieties are produced: a light lager and dark beer lager.
Of course you can come for a drink after work or get together with family and friends, but the experience is enhanced when typical Bavarian cuisine accompanies the golden drinks.
Regensburger Weissbräuhaus offers traditional dishes from the region and the main ingredients come from their own butchery (that is also on site) and from their farm. They are famous for their sausage production: Bratwürste, weisswürste (white sausage) and the Regensburger Knacker (sandwich).
Marian and I decided to start with the sampler, which includes 4 small glasses with the following: Weizen (wheat beer), Weizen dunkel (dark wheat beer), Helles (light beer) and Dunkles (dark beer).
Alex said it was excellent but my favorite was definitely the Weizen and that’s why I ordered a bigger sized drink 🙂
Now when in Germany, you drink and you eat bratwurst and be merry. Therefore I decided to be adventurous and ordered the weisswürste/white sausage with a pretzel and mustard.
Lunch was served!
It was not exactly what I expected but I sure could taste pork mixed with herbs and spices and the freshness of the beer helped and the pretzel was quite a bite to chew. I did love the crispness and sprinkled salt. I am not a fan of the mustard as it was very strong but I did taste it. To each their own right?
Marian and I laughed and cried of laughter over the meal, remembering some of the funniest moments that had happened on the trip and it was only day 3. Can you imagine? 🙂
Needless to say that if you are ever in Regensburg, you definitely need to head over to this well-known and beloved institution. It is quite popular with both locals and foreigners and we now know why. When you offer fabulous beer produced on site, offer excellent and friendly service (again my German helped quite a bit but the lady serving us understood English perfectly) and great ambiance, it can be beat!
All the walking, sightseeing and food started to take a toll on us, so we worked out and burned the consumed calories by walking back to where Viking Atla was docked and it was super easy to find.
We made it back on board right on time for departure for our next destination on the itinerary, Passau, Germany.
