“In nature, light creates the color. In the picture, color creates the light.”
Hans Hofmann
When I read that this week’s photo challenge is about color, I immediately thought of a small and quaint town I visited in Central America.
Sarchí is located in the province of Alajuela and about 1 hour away from San José, the capital of Costa Rica. It is the arts & crafts center of the country.
There are many wood factories and shops where articles such as tables, chairs and handicrafts are built and sold.
The most popular is the oxcart which was originally used to transport coffee from the plantations in the highlands down to the port on the Pacific Ocean.
What is so unique is that instead of being a plain, boring cart, artisans paint it with an array of colors that just give it so much life and simply beautiful.
It’s color therapy if you ask me 🙂

Such details in that work! I love color! Just posted this about orchids. There are some beautiful colors in flowers, that’s for sure! http://www.happytravelbug.com/2013/04/holland-americas-orchids.html
Yes those details are impressive aren’t they? I love art & really love learning about how things are made.
It is such a privilege watching an artist at work & I encourage them by buying one of their products 😉
Every time I look at it I remember it all!
Wow, your post is beautiful!
Thanks so much for sharing it 😉
The artwork on the cart is amazing! That is one of the things I love about travel…things are so different than what we are used to at home! The details in the carts blow me away. Absolutely love that table….surely they must sell a few of those to tourists!
I missed submitting for colour…although I guess it isn’t too late! Just 2 days before the theme came out, I had done a colourful post from St Patrick’s Day …. another travel based version on the colour theme as the photos were all taken in New Orleans! As you can imagine – it was very colourful! http://traveldestinationbucketlist.com/2013/04/03/st-patricks-day-parade-new-orleans-style/
It is incredible for much time & patience it took to paint it. It’s just perfect 😉
Yes, I totally agree with you. Travel opens your eyes & stimulates all your senses!
Life, as you knew it, is never the same…ever again!
